A Conscious Closet

intentional. an adjective I aim to embody in all areas of my life.

i’ve had a few people comment/ask questions about my wardrobe lately (so kind of you to do so!), so i thought i’d explain here! a few years ago, i realized that the intention and care for what i put on my body should be just as congruent as what i put in and around it, focusing on:

- natural materials (e.g., organic cotton/muslin, linen, bamboo, flax/hemp, etc)

- neutral/non-dyed colors (darker colors tend to use more dyes/chemicals)

- non-toxic fabrics and dyes

- durability

- organic practices

- produced in an environmentally and socially conscious way

fast-fashion brands often use highly toxic PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals)” and synthetic dyes, which not only pollute ecosystems but can also have adverse effects on health (you wear these things all day long, right?).

i don’t always hit the mark, but i’m trying. :)

a few tips for ya:

- shop small (soooo many great small shops have adopted the above criteria!)

- shop second hand (you can usually find great linen pieces here!)

- use search terms like “linen” and “muslin” or “gauze”when shopping online

- keep an eye out in discount stores like marshalls, tj maxx, etc, as you can usually find some high quality pieces here that didn’t sell elsewhere

- go neutral (you know I love me some neutrals!)!

slow-fashion helps preserve our planet and safeguard our own well-being. my hope is that i can encourage you to embrace minimalism, and make *a bit more* conscious choices to foster a healthier, more sustainable world to come.
